Kaia went to the woods with Mama, Papa, Sanju Chikki, Dheema Chikki, and Dhama Aaji! The woods were big and green. Kaia liked to look at the trees. She wore her red boots. Mama held her hand. Papa walked ahead. Sanju Chikki carried a yummy picnic basket. Dheema Chikki hummed a happy song. Dhama Aaji pointed at a little bird. "Tweet!" said the bird. They were going to find a special rock. Dhama Aaji said it was a Star Stone. It looked like a shiny star. But, when they got to the big tree, it wasn't there! Kaia looked all around. No Star Stone! Mama looked behind the tree. Papa looked under the tree. Sanju Chikki looked up in the tree. Dheema Chikki looked near some pretty flowers. Dhama Aaji looked by the rocks. The Star Stone was gone! Oh no! Where did it go? Kaia felt sad. She likes shiny things. The Star Stone was very special to Dhama Aaji. Dhama Aaji said the Star Stone kept the forest secrets safe and protected all the small animals! Now someone took it! This made Kaia want to find it more. It felt like a big game of detective and now, suddenly, she really wanted to win!
Kaia saw something on the ground. It was a muddy print! A big, round muddy print! Mama saw it too. "Look, Kaia!" Mama said. "Footprints!" Papa came over. He looked at the muddy print. "Someone walked here," he said. Kaia pointed with her little finger. "Muddy!" she said. Sanju Chikki saw another muddy print. It went toward the creek. Dheema Chikki saw a little shiny thing. It was a blue bead! Not shiny like the Star Stone, but shiny like a toy. Dhama Aaji looked very closely at the ground. She saw little twigs, broken. "Someone was in a hurry!" Dhama Aaji said. They followed the muddy prints. The prints were big. Bigger than Kaia’s feet! They walked near the creek. Splash! Kaia loves water. The muddy prints went near the big rocks. Then, the prints stopped! Where did they go? Kaia thought hard. She liked to think like Dhama Aaji, so she got closer to the ground so that she could get all the information from the ground. These clues would absolutely guide her and her family to solving the mystery! It also meant getting closer to the finish line!
Kaia looked behind the rocks. She peeked and pointed. "There!" she cried. Mama saw a small opening. It was a cave! A secret cave! Papa helped Kaia climb over the rocks. Sanju Chikki held the picnic basket tight. Dheema Chikki turned on her phone's flashlight to make the cave light up. Dhama Aaji watched carefully. Inside the cave, it was dark and cool. Drip, drip, drip went the water. Kaia held Mama's hand. She felt a little bit scared. But, she was also brave like a bear! They walked deeper into the cave. The air smelled like dirt and rocks. Kaia saw something sparkle! It was shiny… like the Star Stone. But was it? Kaia was so excited. She really wanted it to be what she thought it was. Getting out of the cave with the star stone would mean the whole day would be counted as a success. At the very least it could be a good learning opportunity if it wasn't the Stone. Her curiosity was insatiable!
Kaia ran to the sparkly thing. It was not the Star Stone! It was a box! A glittery box! The box was open. Inside, there were colorful beads. Blue, red, green, and yellow beads! Just like the one Dheema found outside the cave! Sanju Chikki looked surprised. "Who left this here?" she asked. Papa picked up the box. He looked inside. "Someone likes shiny things!" he said. Kaia giggled. She likes shiny things too! Dheema Chikki looked closer. She saw a tiny note. It was tucked under the beads. She pulled it out. Dhama Aaji put on her glasses. She read the note. "For the fairies," Dhama Aaji read. "So they can decorate the forest." The beads were for the fairies! Someone wanted to make the forest pretty. Maybe it was a game for someone to play because they loved nature. Maybe just like her, someone wanted to take care and watch over the forest. This thought made Kaia happy.
Kaia heard a sound. Whistle! Whistle! It was a whistling sound. Not a bird singing. A person whistling! Mama heard it too. "Listen!" Mama said. Papa walked to the cave entrance. He looked around. The whistling came closer. Whistle! Whistle! Then, someone appeared. It was a boy! He was holding something in his hand. The boy looked surprised to see them. He had muddy shoes! Just like the muddy prints outside. He smiled shyly. "Hello," he said. Dhama Aaji asked, "Did you take the Star Stone?" The boy looked down. He looked sad. Then he nodded his head and said that he indeed had taken it. He then explained that he only took it because he thought it looked like one of the magic stones in his video game. Sanju Chikki thought that the boy maybe had other plans for the stone, maybe something sneaky. Mama thinks that he had taken it by accident and feels curious to learn the truth. Kaia was still watching him and was curious to see how her didi reacted at this.
The boy opened his hand. He showed them what he was holding. It was the Star Stone! It sparkled in the sunlight. The boy gave the Star Stone to Dhama Aaji. "I'm sorry," he said. "I thought it was a game token." Dhama Aaji smiled. "It's okay," she said. "But this stone is very special." Kaia clapped her hands. The Star Stone was back! She was so happy. Dhama Aaji put the Star Stone back by the big tree. Now the forest secrets were safe again like she mentioned. The boy helped her too. He walked with them out of the woods. He said he would leave more beads for the fairies. Kaia waved goodbye! She thought the boy seemed gentle, maybe he could be a very good friend! Maybe next time they could even play together in the woods, if Dheema and Mama and Dhama Aaji allowed it. They could all go hunting for treasures and go foraging for cool-looking pine cones. Kaia felt very joyful and happy!
Kaia joins her family on a hunt for a missing Star Stone! Following muddy footprints leads them to a glittery surprise in a hidden cave. A whistling boy appears, holding the Star Stone! He returns it, making everything happy again.
