Meet Story Characters: Your Child Can Now Become the Hero of Every Story

Stories have always been personal at StoryBee.

Parents create stories around their child’s interests, favorite themes, bedtime routines, and imagination. Today, we are making storytelling even more personal.

Introducing Story Characters.

Children can now become part of the stories themselves.

Parents can upload a photo, create a character profile, and use that character across stories, adventures, learning experiences, and bedtime moments. Instead of simply reading about heroes, children can now become them.

A space adventure feels different when your child is the astronaut discovering a new planet.

A fantasy story becomes more meaningful when they are the explorer helping magical creatures.

A bedtime story feels more engaging when they are the hero solving problems, helping friends, and discovering new worlds.

Story Characters bring children into the center of the story experience.

The feature allows parents to create reusable character profiles that can appear consistently across stories. Instead of reintroducing details every time, StoryBee remembers the character and uses it to create richer and more connected experiences.

A child who loves dinosaurs may become a young explorer searching ancient worlds. Another child who enjoys painting and animals may become an artist traveling through magical forests. Over time, these characters can continue appearing across different stories and adventures.

When creating a Story Character, parents can optionally add details that help shape the storytelling experience:

  • Character image
  • Name and age group
  • Interests and personality traits
  • Story preferences and appearance details

The goal goes beyond personalization.

It creates continuity.

Stories no longer start from zero each time. Characters can carry their personality, interests, and identity across future adventures.

We also spent time thinking about how this feature should feel.

We intentionally chose the term Story Characters instead of Avatars.

“Avatar” often feels connected to games, profiles, or virtual identities. StoryBee is built around storytelling. “Character” naturally belongs in books, adventures, and imagination. It better represents what this feature is trying to achieve.

Privacy and family safety were equally important during development.

Children’s photos and information deserve extra care. Story Characters are designed for parent-managed use, with control over character creation and management. Parents decide how characters are used and maintained.

This feature also creates new possibilities for the future.

Recurring heroes across books, siblings appearing together in stories, personalized printed books, and character-based audio experiences all become possible when stories have memory.

Story Characters are the first step toward that vision.

Your child is no longer only listening to stories. Now they can become part of them.
