Dusty Discovery
Jabari, a young kangaroo joey, hopped across the red-dust outback canyon. His detective badge, drawn on his pouch, felt important. Yara, a dingo with a bright red bandana, sniffed at the ground. "What are we looking for today, Detective Jabari?" she barked softly. Jabari checked his notebook, filled with drawings of footprints. "Something 'ancient' and 'mysterious,'" he replied, trying to sound grown-up. He pointed a small paw towards a cool cave entrance, half-hidden by a shimmering waterfall. The air felt warm and still. Suddenly, Yara began to dig furiously near a patch of spinifex grass. Her tail wagged wildly. "Aha!" she barked, unearthing a rusty metal box. Jabari's eyes grew wide. This was unexpected.
The Faded Letter
Jabari nudged the rusty box with his nose. It felt heavy. "It's a ... time capsule!" he whispered, remembering a story Tjalpi had told him. Yara helped him pry it open. Inside, tucked amongst dried leaves, was a brittle, yellowed envelope. Carefully, Jabari pulled out a single, folded sheet of paper. The handwriting was faded but neat. He tried to read it. "'To whoever finds this... in 100 years... meet me at the Whispering Rocks,'" he read slowly. Yara tilted her head. "Whispering Rocks? Where are those?" Jabari frowned, looking at the ancient rock paintings nearby. The letter was a clue, but to what?
Tjalpi's Wisdom
Jabari tucked the letter carefully into his pouch. "We need help," he decided. "Tjalpi will know." They hurried through the shimmering heat towards Tjalpi's lean-to, away from the canyon. Tjalpi, the wise Aboriginal elder, sat carving his walking stick, intricate stories etched into the wood. His eyes, full of ancient knowledge, watched them approach. Jabari showed him the faded letter. Tjalpi gently took it, his fingers tracing the old script. "Ah, the Whispering Rocks," Tjalpi murmured. "A place of old echoes." He pointed his carved stick towards a distant, unusual rock formation. "There, where the wind sings age-old songs." The rocks looked far away.
