A Silly Suitor by the Lake
Around the lakeside campsite, lantern light shook on dark water. Shurpanakha, usually fierce, felt a funny flutter. She saw Lakshmana, lean and watchful, and decided he MUST be her prince! She wiggled her nose, thinking about magic. "I want that prince for my husband!" she whispered, eyeing Lakshmana's sturdy staff. Her plan was to turn into the most beautiful lady in the world!
A Wiggly Whirl and a Silly Start
Shurpanakha took a deep breath. Poof! She tried to be pretty with a big smile, but her nose stayed very long and her teeth looked quite pointy. She wore a bright pink sari that kept slipping! "Hello, handsome prince!" she giggled, trying to curtsy but wobbling instead. Lakshmana, sharpening an arrow, just blinked. He saw a messy lady with a funny grin and a wobbly walk. What a strange sight!
Another Wobbly Woo and a Sniff
Shurpanakha frowned. Her first pretty-plan was a flop! Maybe she needed to be a *different* kind of pretty. Poof! This time, she tried to be sparkling like a star. But her hair looked like green moss, and flowers kept falling from behind her ears. She wore a wiggly blue dress that made a 'swish-swish' sound. "Oh, noble prince!" she sniffed, trying to sound swoony, but it came out as a squeak. Lakshmana paused, looking up. He raised an eyebrow at the wobbly lady with the green hair. She looked even sillier than before!
Kindness's True Sparkle
Lakshmana slowly put down his arrow. He looked at Shurpanakha, not at her wobbly dress or green hair. "True beauty is kind, not cruel," he said softly. "You seem to play tricks, but my heart loves truth." Shurpanakha stopped wiggling. Her pointy teeth and long nose peeked out again. She realized her shape-shifting magic couldn't change her mean heart. No silly dress could make her kind. She watched Lakshmana go, a little sad, but knowing his words were true. She learned that day that a good heart shines brighter than any sparkle. And that was the best magic of all.
