Once upon a time, in a cozy burrow nestled among green hills, lived three little bunnies. There was Flopsy, with her fluffy white tail. Then there was Mopsy, who loved to wiggle her nose. And last was Cottontail, the bravest of them all.
One sunny morning, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail had a wonderful idea. "Let's visit our friends on the Big Mountain!" chirped Flopsy. "Yes!" hopped Mopsy. "We can bring them yummy clover snacks!" Cottontail nodded. "It will be a grand adventure!" They packed a basket full of the freshest, greenest clover. They waved goodbye to their mama and started their journey.
They hopped and skipped along the path. The sun warmed their backs. Birds sang sweet songs in the trees. Soon, they came to the foot of the Big Mountain. But there was a problem. Right in front of the path was a pile of big, gray rocks. And sitting on the rocks was a very grumpy lion.
The lion had a big mane and a loud ROAR. He was the King of the Rocks. "ROAR!" boomed the lion. "Where do you think you are going, little bunnies?"
The bunnies stopped. They were a little scared. Cottontail stepped forward. "We want to visit our friends on the Big Mountain," she said. "But you are blocking the path."
The lion huffed. "I am the King of the Rocks! No one passes unless they give me a present. A very good present!" Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail looked at each other. What could they give the grumpy lion?
Flopsy had an idea. "I have a yummy cake!" she said. She pulled out a small blueberry cake from her basket. It smelled sweet and delicious. The lion sniffed the cake. He took a tiny bite. Then he made a grumpy face. "I don't like cake!" he roared. "It's too sweet! Go away!"
Mopsy wiggled her nose. "I have some tasty meat!" she offered. She pulled out a piece of jerky. She thought lions liked meat. The lion sniffed the meat. He took a small bite. Then he made an even grumpier face. "I don't like meat!" he roared again. "It's too chewy! Go away!"
Cottontail thought hard. Flopsy's cake was too sweet. Mopsy's meat was too chewy. What could the lion like? She looked around. She saw the lion sitting on the hard, gray rocks. She had an idea. "I don't have food," Cottontail said. "But I can help you build a house! A cozy home, made just for you."
The lion looked surprised. "A house?" he asked. "What do you mean?"
"I can help you find soft moss and leaves," Cottontail said. "We can build a cozy den, so you don't have to sit on these hard rocks. It will be a place to keep you warm and dry when it rains" Flopsy and Mopsy nodded in agreement.
The lion thought about it. He was tired of sitting on the hard rocks. A cozy home sounded very nice. "Hmm," he said. "A house might be good. But you must help me build it."
So, the three little bunnies and the grumpy lion started to work together. Cottontail showed the lion where to find soft, green moss. Flopsy and Mopsy gathered dry leaves and twigs. The lion used his strong paws to move big rocks. They worked and worked. Slowly, a cozy den started to take shape.
They lined the floor with soft moss. They made a roof of leaves and branches. The den was small but comfortable. It smelled like earth and sunshine. The lion went inside. He stretched out on the soft moss. He sighed happily. "This is much better than those hard rocks!" he said.
The lion was so happy with his new home. He wasn't grumpy anymore. "Thank you, little bunnies," he said. "This is the best present ever! You can pass now. Go visit your friends on the Big Mountain!"
Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail were so excited! They thanked the lion. They hopped past the rocks. They continued their journey up the Big Mountain. They finally reached their friends. They had a wonderful time, eating clover snacks and playing games.
And the lion? He stayed in his cozy den. He was no longer the grumpy King of the Rocks. He was the happy lion with a warm, cozy home. All thanks to the three little bunnies and their kind hearts. From that day on, the bunnies could always reach the mountain tops and were never stopped by a Lion. They often would even visit the lion in his home. They all became great friends and there was never any grumpiness again. Life was good and all were happy.
