King Charlemagne, a very sleepy king, lived in a big castle. He had fluffy white hair and a kind smile. One night, he dreamt of shining angels. They warned him about the grumpy Saracens. They had been mean and taken many toys. Charlemagne, even in his sleep, felt very sad about this. When he woke, he felt he had to help.
He called his friend, Sir Bounce, a brave knight with a bouncy helmet. Bounce had big, round eyes and a cheerful grin. He wore shiny blue armor. “Bounce,” said Charlemagne, yawning, “we must go to the Whispering Mountains. The Saracens are there! We must get back the toys.”
Bounce nodded. He loved adventures, even if they were a little sleepy. They packed a big basket. It had warm bread, sweet berries, and sleepytime honey cakes. Their journey began. They walked through fields of tall flowers. Butterflies fluttered around them. The sun was warm, but the air felt very cool.
The Whispering Mountains were very tall. They had to climb many rocky paths. Charlemagne, being a bit sleepy, stumbled a few times. Bounce helped him up, laughing gently. “Almost there, your Majesty!” he said cheerfully.
Along the way, they met Sweet Spark, a little sheep with a bell that made a sweet tinkling sound. Sweet Spark was lost! She was very afraid and cried softly. Bounce offered some berries. Sweet Spark ate them and felt better. She showed them a secret path. It was much easier to climb. This secret path even led them close to the Saracens’ camp!
The Saracens' camp was near a sparkling river. The Saracens were busy playing with the toys. They were arguing among themselves. They were not very nice, and Bounce felt sad. Charlemagne, though sleepy, felt strong. He wanted to help.
Charlemagne and Bounce decided to be very clever. They didn’t want to fight. They went to the river bank. They gently sang a very sleepy song. The Saracens were so tired. They had also been playing all day. They started to yawn and close their eyes. Soon, they were fast asleep!
Charlemagne and Bounce quietly collected all the toys. They carefully put them back in their basket. They didn't do anything bad to the Saracens. They just wanted their toys back. They thanked Sweet Spark for her help. They began walking back, singing again.
The sun was setting. They reached the castle just as the stars twinkled in the sky. They were very tired but very happy. All the children were very happy to get the toys back. Charlemagne, sleepy but satisfied, smiled. He gave Bounce a big hug. It was time for a good night’s sleep. Sweet Spark lived at the castle now. Everyone lived happily ever after.
