Once upon a time, in a land full of bouncy green grass and sparkling blue rivers, lived three best friends. There was Bounce, the happy little elephant with floppy ears. There was Fizz, the tall and graceful giraffe with long, long legs. And there was Pop, the stripy zebra with a swishy tail.
Bounce loved to play in the mud. Fizz loved to eat juicy leaves from the tallest trees. Pop loved to run fast across the grassy fields. They were the best of friends, always giggling and always together.
One sunny morning, Bounce, Fizz, and Pop had a big surprise! A friendly bird, chirping a happy tune, brought them each a sparkly, colorful ticket. “Hooray!” shouted Bounce. “We are going on a trip!” trumpeted Fizz happily. “To Shiny Japan!” neighed Pop with excitement. They jumped up and down, their hearts full of joy. They had never been on an airplane before. Oh, what an adventure this would be!
They packed their bags with all their favorite things. Bounce packed his favorite mud-pie kit! Fizz put her lucky leaf necklace around her long neck. Pop carefully folded his stripy pajamas. They were ready for their big trip!
Now, in this same land, lived a grumpy tiger named Stripes. Stripes was always frowning. Stripes never wanted to play. Stripes was always mean to Bounce, Fizz, and Pop. He liked to tease Bounce about his big ears. He laughed at Fizz’s wobbly legs. He pulled Pop’s stripy tail. The three friends tried to be nice to Stripes, but he was always so grumpy.
One day, Stripes heard the exciting news. He heard the bird chirping about Bounce, Fizz, and Pop’s amazing trip to Shiny Japan. Stripes’ ears perked up. Shiny Japan? A trip? Stripes wanted to go too!
Stripes thought, “Hmm, maybe if I’m nice, they will let me come.” But Stripes didn’t know how to be nice. He had never been nice before!
Stripes paced back and forth, thinking very hard. “I know!” he said to himself. “I’ll give them presents! Everyone likes presents!” Stripes grinned a sneaky grin. He thought his plan was very clever.
Stripes went to the little shop in town. He bought a shiny red camera for Bounce. “This will take the best pictures ever!” said the shopkeeper. Then, Stripes found a pretty blue bag for Pop. “Perfect for carrying all sorts of treasures!” chirped the shopkeeper. Finally, Stripes picked out a beautiful yellow dress for Fizz. “She will look so lovely in this!” sang the shopkeeper.
Stripes carefully wrapped the presents. He walked over to Bounce, Fizz, and Pop’s favorite grassy field. They were practicing their airplane songs!
“Hello,” said Stripes in a small voice. Bounce, Fizz, and Pop looked surprised. Stripes never said hello! He usually just growled.
“What do you want, Stripes?” asked Bounce, cautiously.
Stripes took a deep breath. “I heard you are going to Shiny Japan,” he said. “And…and I wanted to give you these presents.” Stripes held out the shiny red camera to Bounce.
Bounce’s eyes widened. “For me?” he asked. Stripes nodded. Bounce carefully took the camera. “Wow! It’s so shiny!” he exclaimed. “Thank you, Stripes!”
Next, Stripes offered the pretty blue bag to Pop. “Here you go, Pop,” he mumbled, looking at the ground.
Pop gently took the bag. “It’s so blue! I love blue! Thank you, Stripes!” Pop twirled around, holding the bag high in the air.
Lastly, Stripes gave the beautiful yellow dress to Fizz. “This is for you, Fizz,” he said, a little louder this time.
Fizz gasped. “Oh, Stripes! It’s the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen! Thank you!” Fizz carefully held the dress against herself and smiled.
Bounce, Fizz, and Pop looked at each other. They had never seen Stripes be so nice. He was usually so grumpy and mean. They felt a little bit sorry for him.
“Stripes,” said Bounce, “why are you giving us these presents?”
Stripes shuffled his paws. “Well,” he said, “I…I wanted to ask if I could come to Shiny Japan with you.”
Bounce, Fizz, and Pop looked at each other again. They had a little huddle. They whispered and whispered. It was true that Stripes had been mean to them in the past, but he was trying to be nice now. And the presents were very thoughtful.
Finally, Bounce stepped forward. “Stripes,” he said, “we will let you come to Shiny Japan with us. But you have to promise to be nice. No teasing. No growling. No tail-pulling. Promise?”
Stripes’ eyes lit up. “I promise!” he said. “I will be the nicest tiger you have ever met!” He wagged his tail excitedly.
Bounce, Fizz, and Pop grinned. They were so happy that Stripes was going to be nice. And they were even more excited to go on their adventure to Shiny Japan together!
The next morning, they all went to the airport. Stripes helped Bounce carry his mud-pie kit. He let Fizz wear his favorite hat. And he made sure Pop didn’t lose his stripy pajamas. They walked onto the airplane, hand in hand, or paw in paw, ready for their big journey.
The airplane soared up, up, up into the clouds! Bounce, Fizz, Pop, and Stripes looked out the window. The world looked so small from up high. They saw fluffy white clouds that looked like cotton candy. They laughed and played, pointing out all the sights.
When they arrived in Shiny Japan, their eyes widened. Shiny Japan was even more amazing than they had imagined! There were tall, colorful buildings that sparkled in the sun. There were tiny, zooming cars that zipped around like busy bees. And there were friendly people everywhere, bowing and smiling.
First, they visited a beautiful garden filled with cherry blossom trees. The pink petals fell like gentle rain. Bounce took lots of pictures with his new camera. He snapped photos of Fizz smelling the sweet flowers. He photographed Pop dancing under the falling petals. Stripes even took a picture of Bounce!
Next, they went to a funny place where robots made noodles!. The robots whirred and beeped as they cooked. They even did a little dance while they poured the soup. Fizz tried to slurp the noodles gracefully. Pop giggled as some of the soup splashed on his stripes. Stripes surprised everyone when he said, “These noodles are yummy!”
Then, they explored a busy market filled with all sorts of interesting things. There were colorful fans and shiny toys. There were sweet candies and crunchy crackers. Pop carried all their treasures in his new blue bag. Bounce bought a tiny toy robot to remember their trip by. Fizz found a sparkly hair clip to wear in her long hair. Stripes even bought a little present for his mom… a tiny, painted teacup.
Everywhere they went, Bounce, Fizz, Pop, and Stripes had so much fun! They laughed, they played, and they learned new things. Stripes kept his promise and was very nice. He didn’t tease. He didn’t growl. He didn’t pull anyone’s tail. He even helped Fizz reach the highest branches when she wanted to eat some special leaves!
One evening, as the sun began to set, they sat on a hill overlooking Shiny Japan. The city lights twinkled like a million tiny stars. They were tired but very, very happy.
“This has been the best trip ever!” said Bounce, snuggling close to Fizz.
“I’ve never seen so many amazing things!” exclaimed Fizz, admiring her new sparkly hair clip.
“Thank you for letting me come,” said Stripes quietly. “I had a lot of fun.”
Pop gave Stripes a gentle nudge. “We had fun too, Stripes! You were a great travel buddy!”
They all smiled at each other. They knew that this trip to Shiny Japan had changed them all. Bounce, Fizz, and Pop learned that even grumpy tigers can be nice if you give them a chance. And Stripes learned that being nice is much more fun than being mean. From that day on, Stripes was never grumpy again! He became the best friend that Bounce, Fizz, and Pop could ever ask for.
When it was time to go home, they were a little sad to leave Shiny Japan. But they knew they would never forget their amazing adventure. They boarded the airplane, filled with happy memories and new friendships. As the airplane soared through the clouds, they sang their airplane songs, louder and happier than ever before.
Back in their own land, Bounce, Fizz, Pop, and Stripes continued to be the best of friends. They played in the grassy fields. They splashed in the blue rivers. And they always remembered their wonderful trip to Shiny Japan, the land of cherry blossoms, robot noodles, and happy friendships. And every time Stripes felt a little bit grumpy, Bounce, Fizz or Pop would remind him about the shiny camera, the blue bag, and the yellow dress. Stripes would smile, because he remembered the day he learned that being nice is the best adventure of all! And as the sun set each day, they all knew that from then on they would all be better together for having gone to Shiny Japan!
