A Special Invitation Arrives
Pip, a little hedgehog postman, hurried along the path. His tiny paws made soft *scritch-scritch* sounds on the pavement. Pip carried a very important letter, tied with a bright blue ribbon. It was a special invitation to the International Day of Friendship midnight feast! The sun started to turn all the clouds pink and orange, making the city park look sparkly. Pip sniffed the air, smelling fresh-cut grass and sweet blossoms. He saw the big oak trees, tall and strong, and the pond where the ducks quacked happy evening songs. Pip knew he had to deliver this letter before the moon was high. He clutched the invitation tight, his nose twitching with excitement. He looked for the right tree where the host, Barnaby Bear, lived. He knew Barnaby would be waiting for this special letter. Pip saw a cozy burrow under a giant willow tree, perfect for a feast.
The Runaway Invitation
The wind snatched the invitation away! Pip watched, his little heart going *thump-thump-thump*, as the blue ribbon fluttered like a butterfly. The important letter danced higher and higher, swirling towards the big oak trees. Pip squeaked, "Oh, no!" He dashed forward, his tiny legs pumping as fast as they could go. He saw the invitation get caught on a low branch of the tallest oak. It dangled just out of reach, swaying gently in the breeze. Pip jumped and stretched, but his paws were too short. He tried again, pushing off a fallen leaf, but it only made the branch bounce, and the invitation jiggled even more. He knew he could not leave the invitation up there. It was for the feast tonight! Pip looked around, his whiskers twitching, wondering how to get it down. He saw a long, skinny stick near the base of the tree.
A Clever Idea
The stick was too big! Pip stumbled, nearly tripping over the long branch. He let go of it with a little sigh. The invitation still hung, teasing him, just beyond his reach. He felt a tiny bit sad, but he didn't give up. Pip looked closely at the branch, then at his own spiky back. An idea popped into his head like a bright firefly! He slowly climbed onto a big, flat rock at the base of the tree. From there, he carefully tried to poke the branch with his nose, but it was still too far. He looked around again, his small eyes sparkling. He saw a pile of smooth, round pebbles near the pond's edge. Maybe if he piled them up, he could make himself taller! Pip scampered to the pond, his paws kicking up tiny dust clouds. He carefully rolled one round pebble, then another, back to the oak tree. This was hard work!
