The abandoned city lot used to be a dull, dusty patch. But not anymore! Diego, with his shiny braces and a trowel he called "Excalibur," hummed as he tilled the soil. He pictured plump tomatoes growing on trellises. "Almost ready, Excalibur!" he whispered, patting his tool.
Abuela Ada, a tiny woman with a bright flower-patterned cape, adjusted her hearing aid. It wasn't just any hearing aid; it could pick up distress signals. She remembered fighting villains right here, decades ago. Now, she was fighting weeds. "Careful, mi "jito," she chuckled, "that soil has seen a lot!" Tiny Atom, the super-strong hamster in his acorn helmet, scurried across the bench made from an old battleship shield, pushing a pebble twice his size.
Suddenly, Abuela Ada's hearing aid whistled. A high-pitched squeak. Her eyes narrowed. "Distress! Very small distress!" she announced. Diego stopped digging, his brow furrowed. "What is it, Abuela? A lost kitten?" Atom chattered, puffing out his tiny chest.
Abuela pointed towards a crumbling brick wall. "Deeper than a kitten. A little, little problem." Diego, remembering her stories of old battles, felt a shiver of excitement. He grabbed Excalibur. Atom, sensing adventure, leaped onto Diego's shoulder. They carefully approached the wall. A tiny chasm had opened, and a family of very small, very scared mice were trapped, unable to climb out. Their squeaks were frantic.
"No super-villain, but still a hero's job!" Abuela declared. Diego looked at the mice, then at the steep, smooth side of the chasm. He couldn't just lift them. He had an idea. "Excalibur, to the rescue!" He began to carefully carve small steps into the soft earth of the chasm wall. It was slow work, precise work, using his trowel like a tiny shovel. Atom, with his super strength, pushed loose dirt aside, making the path clear. Abuela Ada kept watch, her cape fluttering gently in the breeze, offering encouraging words. "Más, mi "jito"! Almost there!"
Soon, a mini staircase was ready. One by one, the tiny mice scurried up to safety, their squeaks turning into happy chirps. Diego beamed. Abuela Ada patted his back. "You didn't need to fly or turn invisible, mi "jito". You used your kindness and your cleverness. That's true power, right here in our garden." Diego smiled, looking at the now-safe mice, and then at the tomato seedlings. The garden wasn't just for growing plants; it was for growing heroes too.
