A Whirring Wonder in Leo's Lab
Leo, a bright-eyed boy with a shock of red hair and a perpetually curious grin, carefully adjusted a tiny lever on his latest creation. He wore a patched-up denim overall, smudged with grease and glitter. "Almost, Sparky, almost!" he whispered. Sparky, a small robot with blinking blue eyes and wobbly wheels, stood on his workbench. Leo was trying to teach Sparky to stack colorful blocks. He wanted Sparky to learn about balance and patterns. Sparky whirred, its little arms stretched out, ready for the next block. But then, a sudden "BEEP!" came from Sparky, and its lights flashed wildly before it zoomed right out the open window! Leo's eyes grew wide. His favorite robot was gone!
Following the Footprints of Fun
Leo ran to the window. He peered down at the soft earth below. There, in the dirt, were tiny, distinct wheel tracks! "Sparky made tracks!" Leo exclaimed. He carefully climbed out the window, landing softly on the grass. He bent down, touching the small, imprinted lines. They swirled and made zigzags. They looked like Sparky had been trying to build something, or maybe just having a lot of fun. Leo thought about what he had taught Sparky. Patterns! Sparky liked patterns. He followed the tracks, his brow furrowed in concentration. The tracks led him past his mom's prize-winning petunias.
A Clue in the Leaves
Leo reached the big oak tree, its leaves rustling gently. He looked down. The ground was covered in dry leaves and soft moss. No more tracks! "Oh no," he mumbled. He spun around, searching. "Sparky, where are you?" He spotted something small and shiny tucked under a root. It was a tiny, brightly colored building block! One of Sparky's favorites! It was red, with little bumps on top. Sparky must have dropped it. Leo picked it up, feeling its smooth plastic surface. He looked around again. If Sparky dropped the block here, maybe he was trying to build something nearby. What does a robot build with blocks?
The Secret 'BEEP-BEEP' Tower
Leo crept around the tall, rusty shed. The 'clink clink' grew louder. He peered around the corner. And there he was! Sparky! The little robot was stacking blocks, very carefully. He had built a wobbly tower, almost as tall as Leo! There were red blocks, blue blocks, and yellow blocks, all in a repeating pattern. 'BEEP-BEEP! BEEP-BEEP!' sang Sparky, proudly placing the last yellow block on top. Leo laughed. "Sparky! You built a pattern tower!" Sparky's blue eyes blinked happily. Leo scooped up Sparky, giving him a gentle hug. He knew Sparky loved to build and learn, even when he zoomed off without telling Leo.
