In the sunny savanna, lived a big lion named Leo. Leo had a fluffy mane and a loud ROAR! One day, Leo was sleeping under a big, shady tree. He was having a lovely dream about chasing butterflies! Suddenly, a tiny mouse named Mickey ran right across Leo’s nose! Squeak, squeak!
Leo woke up with a start! He was very grumpy. "ROAR! What was that?" he grumbled. He saw Mickey the mouse, trembling with fear. "Oh, please don't eat me, Mr. Lion!" Mickey squeaked. "I didn't mean to wake you up!"
Leo looked at the tiny mouse. Mickey was so small and scared. Leo had never thought about talking to a mouse before. He usually just chased zebras and played with his lion friends. But Mickey looked so worried!
Leo sighed. "Why shouldn't I eat you?" he asked. "You woke me up from my nap!"
Mickey thought quickly. "If you let me go, Mr. Lion," he squeaked, "maybe, someday, I can help you!" Leo laughed. "Help me?" he roared. "How could a tiny mouse like you ever help a big, strong lion like me?"
But Leo was also a little bit curious. He had never had a mouse offer to help him before. It was different and new. So, he thought for a moment.
"Alright," Leo said finally. "I'll let you go. But I'll remember your promise!" Mickey scurried away as fast as his little legs could carry him. "Thank you, Mr. Lion! Thank you!" he called back.
Leo chuckled and went back to sleep. He didn't really believe that Mickey could ever help him. But he had a feeling that something interesting might happen.
Days went by. Leo spent his time roaring at birds, chasing butterflies, and napping under the big tree. He had almost forgotten about Mickey the mouse. One sunny afternoon, Leo was walking through the savanna when he heard a strange noise.
"Help! Help!" someone was crying. Leo followed the sound and found himself in a clearing. He saw that he was caught in a hunter's net! He roared and struggled, but the net was too strong. He was trapped!
Leo was very scared. He roared and roared, but no one could hear him. He pulled and pulled, but the net wouldn't break. He was starting to lose hope. Suddenly, he heard a tiny voice.
"Mr. Lion? Mr. Lion! Is that you?" Leo looked down and saw Mickey the mouse! "Mickey!" Leo cried. "Help me! I'm trapped!" Mickey didn't hesitate. He ran to the net and started to gnaw at the ropes with his sharp little teeth.
Leo watched in amazement. He couldn't believe that the tiny mouse was actually helping him! Mickey gnawed and gnawed, his little teeth working as fast as they could. Finally, after a long time, the ropes started to break.
With one final gnaw, Mickey cut through the last rope! Leo was free! "Mickey! You saved me!" Leo exclaimed. He couldn't believe that the tiny mouse had actually kept his promise. "I told you I would help you someday!" Mickey squeaked, puffing out his chest.
Leo bent down and nuzzled Mickey gently. "Thank you, my little friend," he said. "I was wrong to think you couldn't help me. You are very brave and very clever."
Mickey giggled. "You're welcome, Mr. Lion!" From that day on, Leo and Mickey became the best of friends. Leo learned that even the smallest creature can be a big help. And Mickey learned that even the biggest creature can be kind. They played together, they explored the savanna together, and they always helped each other. And that, children, is the story of how a big roar and a tiny squeak became the best of friends!
