The Runaway Tune
It was World Music Day. Bright bunting hung between lampposts. Radios played loud on porches. Emilio strummed his wooden guitar. Strum, strum, plink! His guitar case held rattles and bells. Emilio wrote a sweet note. He set it on a park bench. Suddenly, a big wind blew. Whoosh! The paper note flew up high. Emilio dropped his guitar pick. Children chased the flying paper. "Oh no!" cried Emilio. Zephyr the dragon kite heard him. Zephyr had a bright yellow tail. He whistled in the breeze. Fweet, fweet! Beside him sat Jet. Jet was a little origami airplane. Jet had shiny blue ink wings. "Time to help!" whistled Zephyr. "Zoom!" cheered little Jet. Down below, the paper note danced toward a tall lamppost.
Chasing the Breeze
The note twirled around the lamppost. Swish, swoosh, swirl! Jet flap-flapped his blue ink wings. "Zoom, zoom, zip!" Jet dove fast. He tried to catch the corner. But the playful wind was too strong. Puff! The note hopped away. It skipped over a red porch. A porch radio sang: "La, la, boom!" Zephyr swooped low to help. His long yellow tail went wiggle-waggle. Zephyr whistled a loud dragon song. Fweet! Wheee! He reached with his pointy kite nose. Tap! He missed the paper. Zephyr was too big. Jet was too light. The silly wind giggled and tossed the note higher. The note floated into a leafy green bush. Right under the bush, an orange cat blinked her green eyes.
Super Team in the Sky
The cat sniffed the note. "Achoo!" sneezed the cat. The sneeze blew the paper up, up, up! It sailed over the rooftops. Zephyr wanted to fly that high. He flapped his kite wings. Flap, flap, flutter! But the rooftop breeze was wild. Jet had a clever idea. Jet opened his folded heart inside. "Hold my wing!" cried Jet. Jet tucked his nose into Zephyr's yellow tail. Snap! They were linked together. They were super flying partners now! Zephyr gave big power. Jet gave straight steering. Zoom, whoosh, fweet! They flew like one great sky hero. They zoomed right past the rooftop chimney. They stayed right behind the dancing music note. Ahead in the park, Emilio's empty park bench waited in the sunshine.
Safe on the Bench
Zephyr swooped down with a joyful whistle. Fweet, fweet! Jet let go of the yellow tail. Zip! Jet glided with perfect aim. Tap! Jet touched the paper note with his blue wing tip. Down, down, down they drifted. Flutter, flutter, plop! The note landed safely on the park bench. Jet landed neatly right beside it. Emilio ran over and clapped his hands. "Hurrah!" shouted the children. Emilio took out a shiny tambourine. Shake, shake, ring! Emilio sang a happy tune. Radios blasted cheerful beats. Zephyr danced loops above the lampposts. Jet’s paper heart glowed with pride. The sky helpers saved the music for everyone today. What a wonderful World Music Day!
