The Big Shadow and the Tiny Friend
The sun was bright in the savanna sky. Ellie the elephant was very happy. Her big gray ears flapped gently. Her long trunk swayed side to side. Ellie loved to play under the bright sun. She looked for her friend. Freddie the mouse was tiny. He was very, very small. Freddie loved to run fast. He zoomed around Ellie's big feet. Ellie stepped slowly. She was careful not to step on Freddie. Freddie giggled as he ran. Ellie made a big shadow. Freddie ran in and out of the shadow. “Catch me, Ellie!” Freddie squeaked happily. Ellie snorted a happy breath. She tried to catch Freddie. Her trunk moved slowly. Freddie was too fast. He ran circles around her. Ellie felt a little dizzy. She stopped to watch Freddie. Freddie ran up a small hill. He then ran down the hill. "Up and down!" Freddie squeaked. Ellie watched his tiny legs. Ellie thought about big and small. She was big. Freddie was small. It was a fun game.
Gigi and the High, High Leaves
After playing with Freddie, Ellie felt a little hungry. She walked towards the big, tall tree. Its leaves looked yummy. But they were very high up. Ellie's trunk could reach some leaves. But not all of them. Then she saw Gigi. Gigi the giraffe was eating leaves. Gigi had a very long neck. Her head was way up high. Gigi chewed her leaves slowly. She looked down at Ellie. “Hello, Ellie!” Gigi said softly. “Those leaves look good,” Ellie rumbled. Gigi smiled. “They are very good up here.” Ellie tried to reach higher. Her trunk stretched and stretched. It was still not high enough. Gigi saw Ellie trying. “Some things are up,” Gigi explained. “Some things are down.” Gigi pointed her long neck up. Then she pointed down to the ground. Ellie looked up. She looked down. “Up-down,” Ellie practiced. Gigi nodded her tall head. “Yes, up and down.” Ellie wanted to play too. Gigi was up. Ellie was down. Ellie thought about the leaves. The best leaves were up high. Gigi helped Ellie. She brought some leaves down. Gigi was very kind. Ellie ate the leaves happily. It was good to have a tall friend. Gigi taught Ellie about up and down. Ellie liked learning new things.
The Big Rock and the Fast Game
Ellie finished eating the yummy leaves. She felt strong and playful. “Let’s play a game, Gigi!” Ellie trumpeted. Gigi lowered her head gently. “What game, little friend?” she asked. Ellie looked around. She saw a very big rock. It was round and smooth. “Let’s race to the rock!” Ellie suggested. Freddie suddenly zoomed out from the tall grass. He had been quietly napping. “A race!” Freddie squeaked, full of energy. Gigi smiled. “I go slow, Ellie,” Gigi said. “You go fast.” Ellie chuckled. “I can go fast too!” she claimed. But Ellie knew she was a big elephant. She moved with strong, heavy steps. Freddie was tiny. He moved with many quick, tiny steps. Gigi took long, beautiful strides. She moved gracefully. “Ready, steady, go!” Gigi announced. Freddie was off in a blur. He was so, so fast. His legs were a tiny whir. Ellie tried to keep up. Her big legs moved quickly. She kicked up dust as she ran. Gigi took her time. Her long legs moved calmly. She was not rushing. Freddie reached the big rock first. “I’m fast!” he cheered loudly. Ellie arrived a moment later. She was a little out of breath. “You are fast, Freddie!” Ellie agreed. “I am fast too, but you are faster.” Gigi arrived last. “I am slow,” Gigi said. “But I always get there.” Ellie learned about fast and slow. Freddie was fast. Gigi was slow. Ellie was in the middle. It was fun to learn together.
