A Kite on the Roof
It was the longest day of summer. Warm golden sunshine filled the green backyard. Yuna stood by the tall sunflower field. Her bright red kite was stuck fast. It rested on the steep garage roof. The roof was much too high! Tala fluttered down from a sunflower petal. Bark covered Tala's small arms. Fresh green leaves sprouted from her sleeves. "Do not worry!" Tala cheered with glee. Round Mochi bounced across the lawn. *Boing, boing, flop* went his fluffy paws. Mochi stopped to chew a sweet moonbeam. The garden sprinkler went *pssshh* in the twilight. A cool purple mist floated up gently. "We need our kite back," Yuna said. She patted her deep seed pocket. Yuna dropped a striped seed on the ground.
Stretchy Ears to the Sky
The seed gave a tiny sneeze. *Achoo!* But it did not grow yet. Mochi wiggled his long pink nose. "I can help!" squeaked little Mochi. Mochi shook his round, furry body. He grabbed his two long ears. *Stretch, stretch, snap!* His ears pulled like giant rubber bands. Yuna lifted Mochi by his soft tummy. Tala clapped and waved her arms. Bright leaves popped from Tala's sleeves. *Pop, pop, pop!* Up went Mochi into the evening air. His stretchy ears reached for the kite. *Swish!* A playful summer breeze blew past. The breeze tickled Mochi's round belly. Mochi giggled and snapped right back down. *Plop!* He landed safely on the soft clover. His silly ears curled into funny pretzels. The kite was still stuck far above.
The Glowing Sprout
"Seeds love evening drinks," Tala whispered. The garden sprinkler hissed through the air. *Psssshh!* A cool purple mist drifted across the soil. Tala danced around the quiet seed. More green sprouts popped from her elbows. Yuna patted the cool, damp earth. But the little seed stayed asleep. "It needs a sunny snack," said Yuna. She was never surprised by plants. Mochi hopped over with wide, shiny eyes. He had a glowing moonbeam in his teeth. *Chomp, chomp!* Mochi shared his glowing treat. He tucked the bright beam beside the seed. The dark soil sparkled like sugar. *Zip, zoom!* A magical green vine shot skyward. It twisted into rungs like a ladder. The leafy ladder climbed right toward the glowing moon!
Kite in the Moonlight
Yuna stepped onto the bottom rung. The ladder felt strong and leafy. Tala floated right beside her pigtails. Her green sleeve leaves rustled with joy. Mochi bounded up the vine steps. *Boing, hop, boing!* The ladder reached the low roof edge. Yuna carefully untangled the red kite strings. "I have it!" shouted Yuna happily. The big full moon smiled down warmly. Mochi chewed a silver moonbeam like gum. *Munch, munch!* Together, they slid down the smooth green stalk. *Wheee!* Their feet landed safely on the soft grass. The neighborhood children cheered and danced. The sunflower ladder glowed in the purple dusk. Yuna hugged her kite and smiled big. The longest day ended with pure magic.
