Samir tapped his yellow hard hat. Click, clack! His pockets jiggled with colorful connector bricks. Fatima smoothed her blue overalls and smiled. She held her big sticker chart. Every finished build got a gold star. Today was World Play Day!
Together, they clicked giant toy blocks into place. Snap! Pop! Zoom! It was a spaceship with a purple nose. They hopped inside and counted down. "Three, two, one, blastoff!" The block rocket zoomed into space.
Whoosh! They landed with a soft thump. They were on a planet made of playgrounds! Towering climbing frames shone with candy-colored blocks. High above, shiny swings looped right into orbit. Below their feet lay a huge sandbox of silver moon dust.
"Boing, boing!" bounced an alien guide named Zig. Zig had coiled springs for feet. His voice sounded like a slippery slide, whooshing up and down. "Welcome to Planet Play!" Zig cheered with a giggly wheee.
"Look at that giant orbital swing!" cried Samir. But oh no! The ladder blocks had fallen down. Fatima gasped, and her shoulders dropped. How could they reach the sky swing now?
"We can build it!" said Samir cheerfully. He pulled bright connector bricks from his pockets. Fatima tapped her sticker chart and drew a plan with her finger.
Samir passed a red block, and Fatima clicked it tight. Clack! Zig bounced moon dust over the base to keep it steady. Fatima added blue steps, and Samir snapped on green handrails. Click, snap, clack! Step by step, they built a tall spiral staircase. It climbed all the way to the top swing.
"Wheeee!" whistled Zig, sliding his voice happily. They held hands and climbed the block stairs. Samir, Fatima, and Zig sat on the swings and kicked their feet. Up, up, up they soared into orbit! Fatima smiled wide and stuck a sparkling star on her chart.
